Woman of Worth Inc. (WOW INC) earns grant from Alabama Humanities Alliance

Funding will support:  Innovation and Creativity for Health and Wellness: Poets and Innovation Across Alabama

‍ Birmingham, AL July 25, 2026 - WOW INC. has earned a competitive mini grant from the Alabama Humanities Alliance. This award will help make possible Innovation and Creativity for Health and Wellness: Poets and Innovation Across Alabama. Alabama Poet Laureate Salaam Green will join Woman of Worth Inc.'s, Diamonds in the Rough mentorship program for an engaging presentation that explores the connection between creative expression, wellness, resilience, and community. Through storytelling, poetry, and interactive discussion, participants will discover how the humanities can foster healing, inspire self-expression, and encourage personal growth. This program provides young people with an opportunity to engage directly with an accomplished Alabama artist whose work demonstrates the transformative power of words and creativity.

‍This project expands access to the humanities by connecting young people with Alabama's rich literary and cultural traditions through the work of Poet Laureate Salaam Green. Participants will examine themes of identity, resilience, creativity, and wellness while engaging in meaningful dialogue about the role of the arts in strengthening individuals and communities. By making humanities programming accessible to youth who may have limited opportunities to experience it, the project promotes critical thinking, empathy, cultural appreciation, and lifelong learning, creating a lasting impact on both participants and the broader community.

“We are grateful to the Alabama Humanities Alliance for investing in opportunities that make the humanities accessible to young people. This grant allows us to inspire the next generation through the power of storytelling, poetry, and creative expression while reinforcing our mission to cultivate confident, resilient, and purpose-driven leaders." - K. Nikkie Pittman, Founder, Woman of Worth Inc.

‍Since its founding more than 50 years ago, the Alabama Humanities Alliance (AHA) has provided more than $13 million to support thousands of projects in communities across Alabama. AHA’s grant recipients include libraries, museums, universities, arts and literary organizations, chambers of commerce, towns, public archives, historical societies and sites, literacy and media groups, and other cultural groups and community-based nonprofits.

‍“We’re honored to support nonprofits that use the humanities to bring Alabamians together so that we can all learn more about each other and the world around us,” says Chuck Holmes, executive director of the Alabama Humanities Alliance.

‍ ‍

“For more than 50 years, this type of grantmaking has been the backbone of AHA’s work across Alabama,” Holmes says. “We know that when folks engage with the humanities — with history, civics, the arts, folklore, and storytelling — we learn more about who we are, where we come from, and what brings us together. That is always worth supporting, and especially as we reflect on 250 years of America’s story in 2026.”
